The Damned

The Damned by Renee Ahdieh is the second book in The Beautiful series.

After a disastrous night of murder and deceit, Celine Rousseau has voluntarily given up her memories to save the man she loves and Sébastien Saint Germain has involuntarily become a creature of the night–a world of monsters he never wanted any part of. Now both Celine and Bastien must navigate their new truths apart, all while dodging a broken treaty and war on the horizon.

Though Celine no longer remembers her time with Bastien, something keeps drawing the two together and their worlds continue to collide and together they uncover secrets that were laid to rest long ago.

As darkness looms, will Celine uncover her memories and will Bastien come to terms with live as a vampire?

Hmm, I’m not really sure how to feel about this one. I listened to the audio book, which, in my opinion, always bumps up the rating a little bit but still, I both liked and didn’t like this book. It almost felt like a totally different novel from the first one. For one thing, Celine didn’t come in to play as a narrator until at least halfway through the book and then after that, it was basically all about her.

I am also not really sure where the story is going. Yes, there is this big multi-party feud going on and Celine and Bastien are in the middle of it, but what is the end game? By the end, you almost think you know where things are heading and then in the last few pages, poof, that changes.

The first book was good and this one was OK. I don’t see any posting about the third coming out any time soon, so I wonder if my interest will be retained for a long wait. We’ll have to see. This one gets a mediocre 3 stars from me.

That’s all for now!
