Family Storytime – 2/23/19 – Transportation

  2. This is a fun tune and great for waking up and doing a little stretching. It’s called Top of the Morning.

  3. Hello Rhyme – Everybody Count! 

  4. This is a new one for me. I’ve used it once before and it’s kind of fun. Almost a rap really.

Everybody count one, ONE! Storytime has just begun, Everybody count two, TWO! Shake your shoulders, show your shoes, Everybody count three, THREE! Listen very carefully, Everybody count four, FOUR! And put your bottoms on the floor.

  2. You all know this one. I do it faster and faster until we are going so fast we can barely say the words!

  1. I always teach my group a few American Sign Language signs to go with every theme. This is great to help frustrated little ones communicate but it also helps make our world a better place by fostering communication with each other. We have a large deaf community near my library so learning just a few signs are great! I usually use Signing Savvy or Baby Sign Language.

  2. Book – Preschool to the Rescue by Judy Sierra

  3. I just thought this book was soooo cute even though it is quite old. You think all these cars and trucks are getting stuck in the mud, until the preschoolers come and say the day and you realize they are all toys.

  4. Movement exercise – Have You Ever Seen A Sailboat

  5. Put baby on your lap and sway back and forth with the music. Or just sway with the older kids.

Have you ever seen a sailboat, a sailboard, a sailboat Have you ever seen a sailboat waving its sails. Wave this way, and that way. This way and that way. Have you every seen a sailboat, waving it’s sails!

Just a classic movement song we all love!

  1. Game – Stoplight freeze dance

  2. I created red, yellow and green circles on popsicle sticks. When I held up the green, they’d drive their cars. Yellow and they would drive in slow motion. Red and they would have to freeze in place. I showed them in different orders and at different paces to make it more fun. A freeze dance for cars!

  3. Action Rhyme – I’m An Airplane

  1. Story with puppet – Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive The 

Bus! by Mo Willems

  1. I created a pigeon puppet and instead reading the story, I told the kids that no matter how much the pigeon begged, they couldn’t let him drive the bus. So I was the pigeon and the kids kept telling me no every time I asked. It was really fun.

  2. Movement Rhyme – Zoom, Zoom, Zoom

Zoom, zoom, zoom We’re going to the moon. Zoom, zoom, zoom We’re going to the moon. If you want to take a trip Climb aboard my rocket ship. 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 BLASTOFF!

  2. Always a risk, but I passed out shakers and we shook our fanny’s off to the song.

  3. Movement Exercise – If You’re Happy and You Know It

  4. I tell the kids that I want to know how happy they are.

  5. Goodbye Rhyme – See You Later Alligator!

  6. Another new one for me. I needed to mix up my hellos and goodbyes for my regulars.

  4. I always put this one on as I go to open the door. Its a nice, slow, peaceful song to wind down on.

How’d it go:

This one went really well! I swear, there was anywhere from 100-150 people and everything I planned seemed to run smoothly. Transportation for the win!
