Dark Age

Dark Age by Pierce Brown is the fifth novel in the Red Rising saga.

It has been decades since Darrow first led the rising against the cruel color coded society and peace seems like it may just be a lost cause. Outlawed from the republic he helped to forge, Darrow now wages war on Mercury with the dream of finding just a little bit of hope for the worlds that seem lost.

But enemies seem to be coming from all directions and the politics may just be more the more dangerous game to play. Will our heroes continue to fight in the face of insurmountable odds? Or will war continue to rage until the sun dies and takes the solar system with it?

I mentioned in my review of Iron Gold that I honestly thought the story was over after the first three books and that I was surprised that the series was continuing. I still think the first three books were stronger but it was nice to once again get into this world.

I think on of the reason I haven’t enjoyed these last two books as much is that the story has expanded so much. There are new main characters with their own storylines and, even though each one keeps my interest, I am waiting for everything to come together into something that can actually be solved. There’s just a lot going on.

I swear, no one is safe in Brown’s books! You literally cannot get invested in anyone because no. one. is. safe. This book is full of battle after battle and they are gory. I’m not particularly bothered by this but there were a few scenes where even I cringed.

I listened to the audiobook for this one and it was over 33 hours long. I have no idea how Brown is going to wrap all this up, without rushing, in one final book. Guess we’ll have to wait to find out. This one gets 3 stars from me.

That’s all for now!
