Baby Storytime: 9/24/18

Hi Guys,

Week two of baby storytime! Yay! Here is what I planned:

  1. Welcome Rhyme – Welcome, welcome

  2. This one goes to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.

Welcome, welcome everyone. Now you’re here, we’ll have some fun. First we’ll clap our hands just so. Then we’ll bend and touch our toes. Welcome, welcome everyone. Now you’re here, we’ll have some fun!

  1. ASL – The More We Get Together

We first teach the kids the signs for: More, Together, Happy & Friends. Then incorporate the signs as we sing the song. Check out Signing Savvy or Baby Sign Language to learn these signs.

  1. Song – Hands are for clapping by Jim Gill

  2. This another favorite movement song of mine with perfect small movements that babies can do.

  3. Board Book – Mouse Is Small by Mary Murphy Another great “flip-the-flap” book to promote one-on-one reading. Also helps develop a concept of size.

  4. Finger Play – Fe Fi Fo Fum

Fe fi fo fum. (Touch each finger with thumb-one finger per syllable.) See my fingers. (Hold up four fingers.) See my thumb. (Hold up thumb.) Fe fi fo fum. (Touch each finger with thumb again.)

  1. Bounce – This is the way the lady rides

  2. My babies and caregivers love this one. We bounce faster and faster with each verse.

This is the way the lady rides. Lady rides, lady rides. This is the way the lady rides. So early in the morning.

This is the way the gentleman rides, gentleman rides, gentleman rides. This is the way the gentleman rides. So early in the morning.

This is the way the doctor rides. Doctor rides, doctor rides. This is the way the doctor rides. So early in the morning.

This is the way the cowboy rides. Cowboy rides, cowboy rides. This is the way the cowboy rides. So early in the morning.

  1. Flannel – Counting Cars

  1. A fun flannel you can do movements to or just practice your counting and colors.

  2. Song – The Wheels on the Bus

  3. A fun movement song. Any version will work.

  4. Rhyme – Tick Tock, Tick Tock

  5. This is a fun lapsit rhyme with a lift at the end as we “cuckoo!”

Tick tock, tick tock, I’m a little cuckoo clock. Tick tock, tick tock, now it’s one o’clock. Cuckoo! (Lift baby into the air) Continue with two, three, four and five o’clock.

  1. Book – Clip-Clop by Nicola Smee

  1. The best part about taking a storytime break over the summer is that I can come back with all my favorites. This one allows the caregivers to bounce as I read the story.

  2. Finger Stretch – Fingers Like To…

  3. This is a fun one and is great to work on moving those fingers

Fingers like to wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle.

  1. Fingers like to wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle

  2. WAY UP HIGH!

  3. Fingers like to wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle.

  4. Fingers like to wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle, wiggle waggle

  5. WAY DOWN LOW!

  6. How else to fingers like to wiggle?

(wiggle on different body parts)

  1. Song/Shakers – Mr. Sun

  2. A classic kids song and a chance to shake our shakers!

  3. Song/Bubbles – Bubbles by Parachute Express

  4. I love the bubble maker for the babies. Bubbles help babies because the same eye muscles the use to track the bubbles as they move, are the same muscles they will later use for reading.

  5. ASL – The More We Get Together

  6. I like to end with the same sign language song we used in the beginning.

  7. Song – Clean It Up

  8. Any good clean up song will work.

  9. Song – Goodbye, So Long, Farewell by Music Together

  10. I will always put this one on in the background as everyone leaves because I just love it!

How’d it go: Lots of big guys in this group today, but they were very well behaved once I made my, “let’s not step on babies,” announcement. It’s so funny how different the groups are year to year. Last year, I could have enough bounces and lifts but this year they don’t seem quite as into it. Must have more clapping and finger plays instead! Other than that all good 🙂

That’s all for now!
