Family Storytime – 10/19/19 – Bears

Family Storytime – 10/19/19 – Bears

  • Song – Top of the Morning
    • This is a fun tune and great for waking up and doing a little stretching. It’s called Top of the Morning.
  • Hello Rhyme – Clap and Sing Hello

We clap and sing hello,
With our friends at storytime,
We clap and sing hello!
(Wave and sing hello; stomp and sing hello.)

  • Song/Stretch – Skinnamarink by Six Little Ducks61xayzpqmil._sy376_bo1204203200_
    • Just a fun song to get moving to.
  • ASL – BEAR / SCARRED / BRAVE
  • Book – Mother Bruce by Ryan T. Higgins
    • This maaaay be a little long but I think it’ll work for our first story.
  • Rhyme – Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear

Teddy bear, teddy bear, turn around,
Teddy bear, teddy bear, touch the ground,
Teddy bear, teddy bear, reach up high,
Teddy bear, teddy bear, touch the sky,
Teddy bear, teddy bear, bend down low,
Teddy bear, teddy bear, touch your toes,
Teddy bear, teddy bear, go to bed,
Teddy bear, teddy bear, rest your head,
Teddy bear, teddy bear, turn out the lights,
Teddy bear, teddy bear, say “good night”.

  • Activity –  Sleeping, Sleeping…
    • This is a game my mom taught me. You put the kids to sleep, “sleeping, sleeping all the children were sleeping,” and you wake them up as different animals, “And when they woke up they were….” Just don’t forget to put your animals back to bed and wake them up as children.
  • Rhyme – This is big big big

This is big big big Hold (arms out to side)
This is small small small (cup hands together)
This is short short short (hold hands with palms facing each other)
This is tall tall tall (reach one hand above head)
This is fast fast fast (circle fists quickly)
This is slow slow slow (circle fists slowly)
This is yes yes yes (nod)
This is no no no (shake head)

  • Flannel –  Sorting Activity51jarxn2bfpl._sy450_bo1204203200_
    • I can’t find where I got it from but you post the words: small, medium and big. Then you show different animals and sort them into the categories.
  • Book – Big Bear, Small Mouse by Karma Wilson
    • I love Wilson’s books and this is one of her shorter ones, so it works for this storytime.
  • Rhyme –  Ten in the Bed
    • I’m probably going to use a flannel bed and bears for this one.

There were ten in the bed
And the little one said,
“Roll over! Roll over!”
So they all rolled over and
one fell out

Count down to 1…

There was one in the bed
And the little one said,
“I’m lonely, I’m lonley.”
So all ten bears jumped back in
And snuggled up tight!

  • Song/Shakers –  Can’t Stop the Feeling by Trolls
    • I bear this one out every once in a while and everyone loves it!
  • Rhyme – If You’re Happy and You Know It
    • I like to know how happy we are at the end of storytime and this is the perfect one to do that with.
  • Goodbye Rhyme – Clap and Sing Goodbye
    • This is the same opening rhyme but with goodbye instead.

We clap goodbye like this,
With our friends at storytime,
We goodbye like this!
(Wave and stomp goodbye)

  • Song – Clean It Up! by The Laurie Berkner Band
    • Everyone helps put our shakers away.
  • Song – Goodbye, So Long, Farewell my Friends by Music Together
    • I always put this one on as I go to open the door. Its a nice, slow, peaceful song to wind down on.

How’d it go:

Oh boooooy! I think all the children in the world ate sugar for breakfast this morning. This was a storytime where I really had to fly by the seat of my pants and put on some music and change up my rhyme to meet the craziness. For some reason, we were really rambunctious today. I think we all had fun but phew!

That’s all for now!
