Baby Storytime: 9/30/19

  • Hello Rhyme
    • This is one I got from Jbrary. You teach the ASL signs for “hello, friends, time & say.” Then you all do it together.

Hello friends,
Hello friends,
It’s time to say hello.

  • ASL – EAT / MORE / ALL DONE 512tum52b2bjl._sy492_bo1204203200_
    • For my babies I teach them three vocabulary words in American Sign Language each week. We do a lot of repeats and stick to the easy movement signs. I generally use Baby Sign Language.com to check my signs.
  • Song –  Tap Your Toes and Follow Me by Susan Salidor
    • This is a slow movement song that’s great for little kids.
  • Board Book – Big Little by Leslie Patricelli
    • I pass these out to promote one-on-one reading and to help caregivers interact with their little ones. This is a great one for opposites.
  • Rhyme – Little Clapping Mouse
    • We had a lot of fun with this one last time we did it, so I figured we’d get it in again. Clap at every *

Behind the tree * *
And under the house * *
There lived a teeny * *
Tiny mouse * *
She loved to sing * *
She loved to tap * *
But most of all * *
She loved to clap * *
She clapped all night * *
She clapped all day * *
She clapped to frighten * *
The cat away * * * * * * * * (lots of claps)

  • Song – Apples and Bananas
    • Most of my parents know this one, so I thought we’d all sing it and sound goofy together!
  • Finger Play – High Five Friends
    • A fun finger play about being friends.

One little friend has so much to do.
Add another little friend and then we get two.
Three little friends will get the job done.
But four little friends are much more fun!
Now with five little friends, what can we do?
A high five for me and a high five for you!
High five those around you

  • Rhyme – This is Big Big Big
    • This is a fan favorite that works with opposites and simple movements.

This is big big big Hold (arms out to side)
This is small small small (cup hands together)
This is short short short (hold hands with palms facing each other)
This is tall tall tall (reach one hand above head)
This is fast fast fast (circle fists quickly)
This is slow slow slow (circle fists slowly)
This is yes yes yes (nod)
This is no no no (shake head)

  • Book – All Kinds of Kisses by Nancy Tafuri 51ihfsykxgl._sy440_bo1204203200_
    • This is a sweet book and gives us all excuses to kiss, kiss, kiss those babies.
  • Lift – Icka Bicka Soda Cracker
    • I just love saying this rhyme!

Icka bicka soda cracker, icka bicka boo
Icka bicka soda cracker, up goes you! (lift baby)
Icka bicka soda cracker, icka bicka boo
Icka bicka soda cracker, I love you! (hugs and kisses)

  • Bounce – Giddy-Up Giddy-Up
    • Another fan favorite!

Giddy-up, giddy up ride to town (bounce babies on knees)
Giddy-up, giddy-up up and down (lift baby up and down)
Giddy-up fast (bounce quickly)
Giddy up slow (bounce slowly)
Giddy-up, giddy-up, giddy-up, whoa! (dip baby backwards gently)

  • Song/Shakers – Peppermint Twist by Dancin’ Magic
    • A fun upbeat song to shake our shakers with.
  • Song/Bubbles – Bubbles by Parachute Express
    • When we track bubbles with our eyes we are strengthening the eye muscles we later use for reading.
  • Goodbye Rhyme – ASL Goodbye
    • We end the same way we started except we learn the sign for goodbye instead of hello.
  • Song – Clean It Up by Laurie Berkner
  • Song – Goodbye, So Long, Farewell by K. Guilmartin

How’d it go:

This was a big group with school off today but we made room and fun was had!

That’s all for now!
