Baby Storytime: 8/5/19 COLORS

Baby Storytime: 8/5/19

  • Hello Rhyme – H.E.L.L.O
    • This is one I made up myself. We clap out each letter of the word.

Let’s clap and say hello…
H.E. L. L. O.
H.E. L. L. O.
H.E. L. L. O.
Let’s all clap and say good morning.

  • ASL – RAINBOW / RED / BLUE / YELLOW 51kyxrxzw1l._sx444_bo1204203200_
    • For my babies I teach them three vocabulary words in American Sign Language each week. We do a lot of repeats and stick to the easy movement signs. I generally use Baby Sign Language.com to check my signs.
  • Song – Clap, Tap, Bend by It’s Toddler Time
    • This is such an easy movement song for the babies and super short.
  • Board Book – Baby’s Colors by Karen Katz
    • I’ve been into colors lately. And not only do we see colors we can identify object. I pass out as many of these as I can get my hands on to promote that one-on-one reading.
  • Rhyme – Cheek Chin
    • I got this one from another library system. Great for identifying body parts and a fun lift at the end!

Cheek, chin, cheek, chin, cheek, chin, nose.
Cheek, chin, cheek, chin, cheek, chin, toes.
Cheek, chin, cheek, chin, up baby goes!

  • Flannel/Puppet –  One Little Red Fish
    • My intention was to make a flannel for this and if I have time I will but otherwise I am going to use it has a movement/finger play rhyme.

One little red fish, (hold up one finger)
Swimming in the water (put palms together and move them like a fish swimming)
Swimming in the water
Swimming in the water
One little red fish,
Swimming in the water
Bubble, bubble, bubble – POP! (clap hands on POP!)

  • Song – Wheel on the Bus by Toddlers on Parade
    • Everyone loves this classic!
  • Finger Play – See the Little Mouse
    •  I’ve been trying to incorporate more finger plays lately. Seriously though, why are they all about mice.

See the little mousie (circle finger on baby’s hand)
Creeping up the stair. (move hands up baby’s arm)
Looking for a warm nest, (move fingers up arm)
There, oh, there! (tickle armpit)

You put your arms up
You put your arms down
You put your arms up
And you wave them all around
You tickle, tickle, tickle
And you wiggle, wiggle, wiggle
Baby that’s what it’s all about.

(Legs up, Baby up)

  • Book – Little Green Peas: A big book of colors my Keith Baker
    • Those silly little peas are up to it again!
  • Lift – Roly, Poly
    • This one is really going to be a workout!

Roly poly, roly poly
Up, up, up
up, up, up
Roly roly poly
roly roly poly
down, down, down
down, down, down

Bouncing, Bouncing Baby on my Knee (bounce)
Bouncing, bouncing baby 1 2 3! (lift or big bounce)
Clapping, clapping baby on my knee (clap)
Clapping, clapping baby 1 2 3! (big clap)
Hugging, hugging baby on my knee (hug)
Hugging, hugging baby 1 2 3! (hug or tilt)

  • Song/Shaker – Color Song by Parachute Express
    • A fun song to shake, shake, shake to.
  • Song/Bubbles – Splish Splash by Mr. AI
    • I realized I just did this one last week, but it’s the best, so who cares!
  • Goodbye Rhyme – With my Little Hands
    • I thought I’d mix up by goodbyes and do a different one from my hello. That and clapping goodbye would be a lot of claps!

With my little hands I go clap, clap, clap
With my little feet I go tap, tap, tap
With my little arms I wave bye, bye, bye
With my little legs I kick high, high, high
With my little eyes I play peek-a-boo
With my little mouth I say “I love you”

  • Song – Clean It Up by Laurie Berkner
    • Any good clean up song will do.
  • Song – Goodbye, So Long, Farewell by K. Guilmartin
    • I will always put this one on in the background as everyone leaves because I just love it!

How’d it go:

We really liked the fish rhyme! Another big group, but it’ll wind down once summer is over. Overall a fun storytime!

That’s all for now!
